In modern telecommunication systems, information is transmitted using optical signals through an optical fiber. However, the signal processing is done using electronic components in the system, which have reached their maximum performance limits. This makes it difficult to handle increasing amounts of data. By replacing these electronic components with integrated nanophotonics components for creating of optical chip that operates on different physical principles, we can overcome these limitations. This would lead to an increase in bandwidth and speed of data transmission.
